Dear Traveler without a Plan,

Your trip won’t suck. But you will not have the same depth of experience. You can hit up four or five tasting rooms in a day, dropping in and tasting. Be sure to sip and spit, or have a designated driver.

Things to keep in mind:

– Most wineries open at 11 am and close at 5 pm. Peju is an exception, they are open till 6 pm. These are the hours you can visit wineries.

-Uber/Lyft is not a thing, so you have to rent a car or hire a driver.

– You need to eat lunch and breakfast if you plan on having wine all day.

– You also need to hydrate.

– Smaller wineries won’t be available for drop-in appointments. If you have specific places you want to see, like Far Niente, you need to make an appointment. Beringer, Mumm, Gloria Ferrer, Charles Krug and Frog’s Leap all have walk-in tasting bars. These are not the only options but several that are very welcoming to the spontaneous visitor.

Enjoy flying around Napa Valley,

Cheers,
