If your sweetheart is worth having, he won’t leave you over your wine choice. If he can’t get over your wine choice, then there is something deeply wrong with him. And you deserve better.
Clearly communicating what you enjoy and what you don’t is so important. Not telling Tom the truth is not going to help your relationship move forward. If you want to work your way into drier wines, then start with whites before making your way over to big tannic reds. Try a dry Riesling. It tends to be an easier jumping-off point for drinkers like yourself. Most drinkers start with sweet wines and gradually shift toward drier wines over time. But don’t be hard on yourself; your wine choice does not define your character; it’s a personal preference in an alcoholic beverage! Let ‘Tom’ drink what he likes, and you drink what you like.
