Dear Ana,

I’m sure that is extremely scary. But I want to put you at ease – Wine doesn’t have blueberries. Grape wine, at least, is completely safe. The TTB (Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau) regulates all alcohol on the market. If a wine is labeled as grape wine, grapes are the only thing in there. Unless the wine is a ‘blueberry fruit wine,’ which will be in the fruit wine section and very clearly labeled. You are safe.

People taste and smell all sorts of things in wine. It’s part of what makes it really interesting. Different varieties have different aromas and flavors. Red wines tend to show a lot of berry notes, but I, and the TTB, promise you that there are no blueberries in your glass of Zinfandel.

Enjoy Cabernet Sauvignons, Zinfandels, and such to your heart’s content.

Cheers,
